Setia Tyre Appointed as Maruni Tyre Repair’s Sole Distributor in Malaysia

Since its establishment in 1985, Setia Tyre Repair Product (M) Sdn Bhd has been dedicated to providing high-quality car and tyre repair products and tools. Over the decades, the company has grown to become one of Malaysia’s most trusted suppliers, offering one of the widest ranges of tyre repair tools and accessories available in the market.

In 2018, Maruni Tyre Repair, a renowned Japanese manufacturer of tyre repair materials, appointed Setia Tyre as one of its distributors in Malaysia. Within just two years, Setia Tyre was named the exclusive distributor for Maruni products in the country.

“Maruni was founded in 1914 as a specialised manufacturer of puncture repair materials for bicycle tyres,” explained Managing Director S.H. Chia. “As the automotive industry evolved, Maruni advanced alongside it, becoming a comprehensive repair material manufacturer for motorcycles, passenger cars, trucks, buses, and even heavy machinery.”

Championing Proper Tyre Repair Practices

With decades of industry experience, Chia emphasised that proper tyre repair techniques are crucial for safety and long-term performance.

He noted that many tyre repairs in Malaysia are still performed using temporary methods such as string plugs. These products are not part of Maruni’s range and do not vulcanise properly, making them an easy but less reliable fix.

“String plugs are quick and affordable, but they don’t address the root issue. A plugged tyre still has a structural failure that needs to be properly repaired,” said Chia. “While the risk may seem minor for passenger cars, it can be serious for trucks or vehicles travelling at high speeds. Trapped air between the tread layers can cause ply separation or, in worse cases, lead to tyre blowouts.”

He added that a proper inspection and professional repair are essential to ensure safety on the road.

Maruni’s Standard for Safe and Lasting Repairs

According to Chia, Maruni’s repair system follows strict technical procedures designed for durability and reliability. The process begins with assessing whether the tyre is repairable.

For punctures located up to 20 degrees from the tread, a plug patch may be used. If the angle is greater than that, Maruni recommends using a separate stem and patch combination. Damage on the shoulder or sidewall, however, should not be repaired.

The process involves carefully removing foreign objects, marking the damaged area, cleaning and buffing the surface, and applying Maruni’s CFC-free products such as Liquid Buffer, Super Valkarn G, and Sealiner for optimal bonding and sealing.

“When the procedure is followed correctly, the repair is safe, permanent, and reliable,” said Chia. “To ensure our customers can carry out these repairs properly, we’ve established a fully equipped training centre at our office, where we provide free training on our entire product range.”

The Maruni Difference

Maruni remains the only tyre repair material manufacturer in Japan, with a global presence spanning over 60 countries and a strong reputation built over more than 70 years.

“All Maruni products are made in Japan, which has long been a symbol of high quality,” Chia explained. “Unlike other brands that use separate adhesive layers attached with cement, Maruni’s patches are formed using heat and pressure through an integral moulding process. This ensures the reinforcement and adhesive layers never separate, making the patch far more durable and reliable.”

Maruni’s Super Valkaseal G and Valkarn vulcanising cements are also formulated for superior adhesion and heat resistance, preventing patch detachment even during long, high-speed drives. Additionally, their non-flammable composition makes them safer and easier to store.

“Other brands’ cements may gel before they’re fully used, but Maruni’s remain stable until the last drop,” said Chia. “This makes them not only safer but also more economical in the long run.”

He also highlighted that Maruni’s repair strings and tube patches offer unique advantages. The repair strings vulcanise properly rather than merely sticking to the puncture, while the patches are designed with a tapered edge to ensure they remain securely attached and do not peel off over time.

Committed to Quality and Innovation

Chia concluded by reaffirming Setia Tyre Repair Product (M) Sdn Bhd’s dedication to delivering reliable solutions for professionals in the automotive industry.

“We take pride in being recognised for our expertise not only in tyre repair tools and materials but also in providing a full range of automotive solutions, including car jacks, special tools, seals, tyre patches, tyre separation tools, bolts, and nuts.”
